Meat Cove Community

Meat Cove is known to be one of the most alluring places on Cape Breton Island. We are at the end of an 8 km gravel road, where you will experience the magnificent views of the steep mountains and whale populated ocean as you endure your drive in. We are the most Northern Community in Inverness County, Cape Breton. Our community is at the end of the road where the Gulf of Saint Lawrence meets the Atlantic Ocean. We are a fishing community that thrives on our heritage, having settled back for 7 Generations, with having a very interesting history with many residents that have their roots going back to Scotland and Ireland ancestry. We are a very proud community having many of our forbearers volunteering in both World Wars and the Korean conflict.

Us of the present generations of this community have a very honored and respectful admirations for our veterans, that we have a wall of memory housed in our centre in remembrance of the great sacrifices that they made, to give us in Meat Cove, the life style and comfort that we enjoy today .

Our Community Centre first opened in 1999 as a C@P Centre, since then we have had many great opportunities to give back by employing many of the residents and people of the surrounding areas.

Our Community Center’s Restaurant opened the summer of 2008, offering some of the most delicious food the Island has to offer. We have weekly entertainment, Internet use, telephone use, laundry services & information on local hiking trails.
